Great game; well done to Fausti! The times of Chess sure have changed! Children born in this day and age have a huge advantage over veteran players. This is due to technology and accessibility that's never been available until this decade. Children are able to download chess programs that contain within them a near infinite compendium of game skill, techniques, and training tools that propel them to professional levels very, very quickly. Not only do they have the rapid learning of the brain during that phase of development, they're also standing on top of the shoulders of literal centuries of Chess knowledge that they can learn with something as simple as the click of a computer mouse. Before interactive Chess learning programs, players had to learn via scouring Chess texts and player-to-player engagements. Now, a child can sit in their room with a smart phone during a summer break and emerge at a semi-professional level, without even having to interact with another human! The more I watch Chess in 2024, the more I find young players climbing the ranks like never before. Child Chess prodigies used to be rare gems, but now they're nearly as common as pebbles. Regardless, beating Magnus Carlson in a game of bullet chess is nothing to scoff at; Great work, Faustino!

Yes, I like the idea of playing from a starting position in an old game. It provides new information and analysis.

I really like the concept of the Casablanca Tournament - revisiting great games of the past, with interesting starting positions very different from the stale standard openings that all serious chess players have memorised out to move X. All that is necessary is choose an interesting game from the past, at a point where the computer evaluation is about equal for both players. I note that this is in rapid time format. But as most of the games were from Classical tournaments, it might be even better if the time format was Classical.

I would have crushed Hikrau with that position, it would have made winning that trophy even at much more immaculate. If they are forced to play positions of the past, ofc I like it. So many positions to consider, from Tal's positions, Morphy's positions, to Fischer's positions. Of course we can even consider positions in the games between the engines, hahaha. Like Stockfish vs Alpha zero.

I was expecting some dazzling mating net, but no it ended with a liquidation to force a winning king+pawn endgame. Lovely stuff.

Whenever White plays d5, with a pawn on e4, he always seems to get good attacking chances. Way back in 1969 Spassky played d5 against Petrosian's Semi-Tarrash Defense and played e4-e5 next and won game 5 of their World Championship match. In that game Black had played Nc6 instead of the Nb-d7 as played here. Thanks for a good show.

Too dam much going on….

I find this chess variant tournament a great idea. I like the very old games even more, so the Steinitz game in this tournament. Imagine a famous Morphy-Anderson game. Some of their games had enough rigour to start from, I think. Some of the most famous games ever (Evergreen, Immortal, the Opera game) are probably lost within the first few moves and therefore not suitable but Morphy-Anderson was probably not decided within the first few moves, even by today's standards.
